If former President Mahinda Rajapaksa wants to return to politics, he is prepared to challenge him in his home electorate of Beliatta, Democratic National Movement leader Chathura Senaratne stated.

 

Speaking at the national convention of the DNM at Sugathadasa Stadium last evening, Senaratne said that he will defeat Rajapaksa in Beliatta and end his dreams of a political comeback in his own backyard.

 

Senaratne further said that his movement is ready to surround party headquarters of the SLFP and the UNP if either party offers nominations to corrupt individuals.

 

He added that he wants to change the political culture and lashed out at sons of leading politicians who thrive in politics only because o their fathers' powers.

 

Interestingly, Chathura Senaratne is the son of Minister Rajitha Senaratne. He played an important role in the presidential campaign of President Maithripala Sirisena.
