Cabraal Defends Rajapaksa: Says Former President Did Not Interfere With His Work

Former Governor of Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa did not interfere with his duties and only guided him when necessary.

Taking part in the 360 political talk show on TV Derana last night, Cabraal also refuted the allegation that there was a 'cold war' between him and the former Secretary to the Ministry of Finance Dr. P. B. Jayasundera.

Furthermore, he said that during his tenure as Governor of Central Bank, he plyed a key role in transforming the economy. A US $ 24 billion economy was improved to a US $ 75 billion economy in nine years, Cabraal pointed out. Inflation was kept at single digit values for many years and per-capita income was also improved significantly, he added.

In such a backdrop, it is wrong if anyone accuses of him being an 'economic assassin', the former Governor of Central Bank said.
