Former JVP leader Somawansa Amarasinghe stated that he will launch his party at the New Town Hall on Saturday, June 27, at its inaugural convention.
Speaking to Asian Mirror, Amarasinghe said that his intention is to form a broad, progressive alliance. He pointed out that the UNP is building up one alliance with the SLMC, TNA and other groups. Mahinda Rajapaksa is also building an alliance, Amarasinghe said. However neither of these alliance are good for the country, Amarasinghe added.
Amarasinghe also said that he has already discussed the possibility of forming an alliance with several organizations including the First Front and the Pivithuru Hetak National Council.
He also said that the new party will contest the forthcoming general election.
