The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court today (30) ordered that the case against former President Ranil Wickremesinghe and former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake be called again on November 11 to obtain the Attorney General’s advice.
Both Wickremesinghe and Ekanayake appeared before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena when the case was taken up.
The case, filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the Public Property Act, concerns the alleged misuse of more than Rs. 16.6 million in public funds in connection with Wickremesinghe’s attendance at his wife’s graduation ceremony in the United Kingdom in 2023.
The CID had previously informed the court that investigations had been completed and that the relevant files and documents had been submitted to the Attorney General for further action.
After considering the status of the investigations and the need for the Attorney General’s advice on the next steps, the Magistrate fixed the next hearing for November 11.
