Sri Lanka's Private Buses to Bypass Emission Testing Starting January 2024, Citing Lack of Practical Program and Fuel Quality Concerns

Private buses in Sri Lanka will be exempt from emission testing starting in January next year, according to the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association (LPBOA).

The decision was made due to a lack of a practical program for emission testing, as stated by LPBOA President Gemunu Wijeratne during a press conference in Colombo.

The association plans to inform transport authorities in writing of this decision.

Wijeratne also raised concerns about the quality of diesel fuel provided for buses and noted that emission tests are not being conducted for buses under the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) or other government vehicles.
