Water Supply Restored to Several Areas After Pipe Burst

Water supply has been restored to Homagama, Pannipitiya, and other affected areas following a major water transmission pipe burst in Godagama. The incident, which occurred yesterday morning, disrupted service to around 100,000 residents.

The break at the Kalatuwawa Water Purification Plant was caused by a car accident, where the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in significant damage to the pipe.

Kumudu Wijegunawardena, Assistant General Manager of Operations and Maintenance at the National Water Supply Board, confirmed that crews worked through the night to repair the pipe and restore water service.
