Foreign Minister Ali Sabry has addressed recent public concerns regarding Sri Lanka’s diplomatic representation in Israel, providing key clarifications:
1. Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Tel Aviv: The embassy in Tel Aviv remains operational and is the only official Sri Lankan diplomatic mission in Israel, serving as the main channel for bilateral relations.
2. Honorary Consul in Haifa : An honorary consul, appointed before October 7, 2023, continues to serve in Haifa, offering consular support to Sri Lankans in the region. This role is voluntary and adheres to international norms.
3. No New Consulates or Appointments : Sri Lanka has not established any new consulates or honorary consul positions in Israel since the stated date. Claims of new appointments are inaccurate.
4. Office Relocations : Any changes in the honorary consul's office location are administrative and should not be mistaken for the creation of new consular offices.
