Independent presidential candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe is urging Sri Lankans to support his bid for re-election, highlighting his role in stabilizing the country during a severe crisis. At a rally in Mannar, Ranil reflected on the dire shortages of food, medicine, fuel, and gas that plagued Sri Lanka two years ago, asserting that his leadership was crucial in overcoming these challenges.
He criticized Sajith Premadasa and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, for their perceived inaction during the crisis. He questioned their commitment to the public and highlighted the progress made under his administration, including the restoration of essential supplies and economic stabilization.
"I addressed the shortages and revitalized the economy," Wickremesinghe stated. "Today, we have gas, fuel, and medicines again, and the economy is on the mend. Those who avoided responsibility now want to take charge—this must be rejected."
He also defended the tough decisions he made, noting that while they were difficult, they were necessary to secure the country's future. He called on voters to support his continued efforts to honor agreements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and to push forward with development plans.
Ranil Wickremesinghe urged the public to remain informed about the complexities of the current economic situation and to grant him a mandate to complete his work in transforming Sri Lanka's economy.
