Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna politburo member K.D Lalkantha on Sunday (07) stated that authorities should reconsider the Sampur coal power plant project.

Authorities should be mindful of the environment and health hazards posed by the proposed coal power plant at Sampur. The Environmental Impact Assessment has been done earlier when most of the people were displaced due to the war.

He made this observation when he visited Sampur and Mutur areas to meet people in these areas who have raised concerns on the proposed Sampur coal power plant.

Authorities need to take decisions considering the lands, people and environment, Lalkantha said. The most important factors are the people and the environment, he also pointed out.
