GTF Says War Crimes Not Discussed In London Meeting

Global Tamil Forum (GTF)  Spokesperson Suren Surendiran on Tuesday (09) stated that GTF only discussed immediate needs of war affected people in the Northern Province during the dialogue held with Sri Lankan government officials in London.

Speaking to ‘BBC Sandeshaya’, Surendiran revealed that topics such as political solution for the Northen Province, accountability for the alleged war crimes and UN council for human rights in Geneva were not discussed during the meeting.

“Government’s step of releasing lands to the original Tamil owners is admirable. However people need money to rebuild their homes. Receiving lands is not just enough for them,” Surendiran stressed. Therefore we needed to find a way to help war-affected people, he said.

He added that they discussed what they could do for them with the international community and Sri Lankan foreign minister Mangala Samaraweera, he added.

GTF also pointed out to the foreign minister that experts in Tamil Diaspora may not be able to help Sri Lanka if the ban on them is not lifted, Surendiran asserted.
