Deputy Minister of Mass Media Shantha Bandara said former president Mahinda Rajapaksa should be given special security considering his role in ending the war and his threats to life.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Bandara said that Rajapaksa should be treated with more priority than other former heads of state because there is a special threat to him. Rajapaksa led the war to a successful completion and therefore he could still be the target of certain elements, Bandara added.
A complaint was filed with the Inspector General of Police yesterday stating that there was a threat to Rajapaksa’s life. Police Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told media that the IGP has given special attention to this issue.
