The six member committee appointed to bring about unity between President Maithripala Sirisena and former president Mahinda Rajapaksa is meeting the President this afternoon.

 

The committee comprises of John Seneviratne, Dilan Perera, Kumara Welgama, T. B. Ekanayake, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa and Susil Premajayantha. It was appointed during a special meeting of SLFP MPs and organizers at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on Tuesday.

 

On Thursday, Cabinet Spokesman Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that the former president will not be given nominations to contest the next election. However, John Seneviratne refuted Senaratne's claim that the President had informed of such a decision to the six member committee.
