The gazette notification on dissolving the parliament was issued midnight yesterday (26).

According to the gazette notification general election will be held on August 17 while the new parliament is to convene on September 01.

Nominations for the 2015 General Election are to be accepted between July 06 and July 15. 

Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya is scheduled to hold a news conference on Saturday (27)  where he will officially announce the dates.

This ends the term of the parliament 10 months before the completion of its full term, and two months after the completion of the100 Days Programme.
