President Maithripala Sirisena opened Business Forum to promote trade, investment, tourism and foreign employment between Sri Lanka and Malaysia today (15) here in Kuala Lumpur.

Ampitiye Sumana Thera, the Chief Incumbent of the Mangalaramaya in Batticaloa, was released on bail today by the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court over allegedly disturbing the peace and contravening court orders.

He was released on a cash bail of Rs 50,000 and two sureties of Rs 500,000 each.

Tamil estate workers in the hill country of Sri Lanka pay tribute to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jeyaram who passed away last night. The estate workers are descendants of migrant workers from Tamil Nadu who were brought to Sri Lanka, (then called Ceylon) by the British. Important political figures in Tamil Nadu are popular figures among these people.

Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse a protest by Sri Lanka Podujana Party to demand the government to hold the Local Government Elections.

Front Line Socialist Party Central Committee member Kumar Gunaratnam was released from prison today.

This photograph, found in this billboard and several other places near the Ruwanweliseya in Anuradhapura, has a misleading description. It says the photograph was taken in 1800. It is common knowledge that the camera had not been invented in 1800.

One reference suggests that this picture was taken in "late 1800s or early 1900s". Perhaps the organizers who put up this photo misunderstood this. People who are ignorant of the fact that cameras were not invented by 1800, believe this to be true.
