Thousands of Tamil people across the northern province yesterday heeded a call by the Tamil People's Congress led by Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran, to protest against the government.

Singers, dancers and fireworks lit up the iconic stadium before tributes were paid to Iranian cyclist Bahman Golbarnezhad, who died on Saturday.

Sir Philip Craven, International Paralympic Committee president, said the movement was "united in grief".

Sri Lanka faced Australia at the second T20 International yesterday. Glenn Maxwell once again took the game from Sri Lanka with almost a single handed batting display. However, according to this placard, former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga would have wanted to take credit for the game as well. "Maxwell did not finish three fourths of the match. I did - Chandrika" the placard says, in clear reference to her claim that she finished three fourths of the war.
