Minor Floods In Galle

Several roads were inundated across the Galle District this morning due to heavy rains, causing obstructions to transport.

Hartal In North

A hartal was launched today to protest against the recent death of two Jaffna University students on the night of October 20, allegedly by police shooting. Several political parties and other associations support this hartal.

A protest began a short while ago near the Colombo District Court opposing what the protesters call a 'ban' on Prasanna Vithanage's movie 'Usaviya Nihandayi' (Silence in the Courts). The District Court issued an injunction order against the screening of the movie on October 5. The case will be heard again today.

Sirisena Meets Suu Kyi

President Maithripala Sirisena met with Myanmar's State Counsellor and leader of the National League for Democracy Aung San Suu Kyi yesterday at Goa, India.

Thailand King Bhumibol Adulyadej passed away at the age of 88, causing its people to weep in unison. The king, considered in near-religious fervor by many Thais, was the longest serving head of state of a sovereign nation.

Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary called on Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera at the Foreign Ministry on 12 October 2016, to discuss bilateral cooperation and issues of mutual concern. The Hungarian Foreign Minister was accompanied by a delegation that consisted of Gylua Pathó, Ambassador of Hungary to Sri Lanka and Gabor Kun, Deputy CEO, Hungarian National Trading House.
