Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya plans to modernize free education in Sri Lanka, drawing inspiration from India's successful education model. He expressed his goal to transform the Colombo district into a leading educational hub, highlighting the need for English language-centered education and integrating information technology from grades 1 to 13.
He acknowledged the challenges associated with these reforms, referencing recent unrest at Sri Jayewardenepura University. Despite opposition, he remains committed to these changes, which he believes are essential for the 4.1 million schoolchildren in Sri Lanka.
In addition to educational reforms, Sajith highlighted the importance of economic recovery through increased IT exports and the establishment of IT parks across constituencies. He criticized the current political landscape under President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Anura Kumara Dissanayake, calling their alliance a "political marriage" driven by negative sentiments and predicting its dissolution with public support.
