Fishermen Arrest: PMK Plans Protest at Sri Lankan Consulate in Chennai

In response to the recent arrests of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss has announced a protest at the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission in Chennai on October 8.

Ramadoss condemned the ongoing arrests, saying that since the fishing ban ended on June 16, 404 fishermen have been detained, and 54 fishing boats have been seized. Currently, 162 fishermen remain imprisoned in Sri Lanka, causing distress for their families.

Criticizing the Tamil Nadu government's lack of action, Ramadoss emphasized the need for a robust response rather than mere correspondence with the central government. During the protest, the PMK will demand the immediate release of the detained fishermen and their boats, advocating for the rights of local fishermen to access traditional fishing grounds without fear of arrest.
