The Inspector General of Police (IGP) N. K. Illangakoon ordered the transfer of the OIC of the Jaffna Division SSP Lakshman Weerasekara, the HQI of Kayts CI Q.R. Perera and HQI of Jaffna CI B.M.R.K.B. Balasooriya with immediate effect today.

This follows the incidents following the rape and murder of a 17 year of schoolgirl from Punguditivu in Kayts recently.

Protests turned violent on May 20 in Jaffna resulting in injuries to several policemen and arrests of 130 people.

The IGP was in Jaffna yesterday and visited the area today also.
