Former Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said that the opposition was collecting signatures for a no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister.
Almost 60 MPs had signed within hours after the collecting of signatures began, he told local media yesterday.
The main points stressed in the no-confidence motion are being the leader of a minority government, his conduct during the controversial Treasury bond issue, politicizing the police and the harm done to economy and security of the country.
He also said that MPs who hold ministerial and deputy ministerial portfolios in the government have also signed the motion.
