Repairs of the Jaffna Courts was started today with the assistance of security forces, following the damages caused by protesters on May 20.
Protests against the rape and murder of a schoolgirl in Punguditivu, Jaffna, turned violent on May 20 in Jaffna town and protesters pelted stones at the Court complex. Buildings and several vehicles were damaged and five police personnel were injured.
Chief Justice K Sripavan visited the area recently to inspect the damages caused to the court complex.
Police arrested 130 protesters and they were remanded till early June by Jaffna Magistrate.
