Former Minister TB Ekanayake on Sunday (24) revealed that seven MPs of United National Party (UNP) will join with the opposition in near future.
The reason behind this decision is the activities of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe, he told a local newspaper.
“They say that if Ranil Wickremasinge continues to be the Prime Minister, not only the party but the country will also end up in trouble,” Ekanayake said.
He also said that they have already conducted two rounds of discussions on the matter. If discussions succeed they will join with the opposition before the general election, he added.
Ekanayake declined to name the UNP members who would crossover. “But we can say that among them there are few state ministers and deputy ministers of the government,” he said.
