Committee on Public Enterprises (COPE) will commence an investigation into the controversial Central Bank Treasury bond issue tomorrow, Chairman of the committee DEW Gunasekera stated.
Speaking to Asian Mirror this morning, the UPFA MP said that the committee does not have any details on the issue apart from the statement by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and the report of the three-member committee appointed to inquire into the matter.
COPE will call for evidence and conduct an independent inquiry on the issue, Gunasekera said.
Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran was accused of insider trading during the Treasury bond issue in February. A three member committee was appointed by the Prime Minister to probe the issue. In April, the committee released its report, saying that Mahendran was not directly responsible for any wrongdoing.
