General Secretary of Bodu Bala Sena Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera was arrested by Kurunduwatta Police a short while ago, Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said.

He has been taken to Colombo Magistrate Courts, Gunasekara further said.

Gnanasara Thera arrived in the island last night from Tokyo, and appeared at Kurunduwatta Police to give a statement, BBS CEO Dilanthe Withanage told Asian Mirror this morning.

On April 24, Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera and 26 others were summoned to the Colombo Magistrate Courts on charges of contempt of court after they had taken part in a protest near the Bribery Commission, defying a court order.

Gnanasara Thera failed to appear in person at the court on May 8, which led the Colombo Magistrate to issue a warrant for his arrest.
