Stay Order Imposed On Protests In Chunnakam

The Mallakam Court issued a stay order banning any processions or protests up to 14 days from today within the Chunnakam police area in the Jaffna Peninsula.

Protests broke out on May 19 and May 20 in Jaffna Peninsula against the alleged criminals who raped and murdered a 17 year-old girl. The protests near Jaffna Courts Complex on May 20 turned violent and protesters pelted stones at the court complex.

Police arrested 130 people during the protest. They were later remanded by the Jaffna Magistrate.

Jaffna Courts imposed a banning order on protests in the Jaffna city recently.
