UPFA MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena on Tuesday (26) hit out at the ‘good governance’ government saying that the government hunts its political opponents through Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
This was said in a statement posted on Gunawardena’s Facebook page. The statement firmly stated that he never used any government vehicle after January 09.
Through this statement, he questioned as to how CID can arrest him over the misuse of vehicles, pointing out that he handed over every vehicle he used from 2005 to 2015. CID cannot file a case against him according to the Public Property Act, the statement said.
Gunewardena, a close associate of the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa had been the subject of several inquiries after the fall of the former government. On May 11 CID arrested Gunawardena over the misuse of vehicles of the Presidential Secretariat.
He was accused of using 22 vehicles leased by the President Secretariat Office from LOLC.
Gunawardena was further remanded till June 3 by Colombo Fort Magistrate when the case was heard on May 20.
