Army Troops Offer Support In Hospitals Following Strike By Health Workers

The assistance of the Sri Lanka Army was offered to conduct emergency skeletal services at several government hospitals in response today following a request by the Ministry of Health.

The request was made following a trade union action launched by the minor staff in hospitals Tuesday (26) morning.

The Army said that troops have been deployed to state hospitals Awissawella, Badulla, Kosgama, Colombo South, Kurunegala, Elpitiya, Matara, Lady Ridgeway and Okkampitiya. The largest numbers were deployed at Lady Ridgeway Hospital (102) and Colombo South Hospital (61).

Meanwhile, a reserve contingent is on standby in case of further requirements, SL Army said.
