Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith P. Perera agreed with JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, stating that the National Executive Council does not have validity after April 23.
At a recent meeting, Dissanayake pointed out that the NEC did not meet after April 19 and added that he will boycott future meetings even if they are held.
Taking part in the ‘Rajya Sevaya Pinisayi’ TV talk show on Swarnawahini last night, Ajith P. Perera said that the NEC does not have a mandate after the completion of the 100 Days Program. Ideally, even the parliament should have been dissolved after April 23, he said.
However, Perera pointed out that President Maithripala Sirisena wanted a few weeks to complete the approval of the 19th Amendment. Then, he once again made a request for few more weeks for the approval of the 20th Amendment. This is the reason for the delay in the dissolution of the parliament, Ajith P. Perera pointed out.
