United National Party will contest the forthcoming general election as part of an alliance and the symbol could be the elephant or the swan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ajith P. Perera said.

Participating in the ‘Raajya Sevaya Pinisayi’ talk show on Swarnawahini last night, Perera said that many political parties have already expressed their intention of contesting in the next general election with the UNP.

Meanwhile, some individuals are arguing that the swan is a better symbol since it is ‘soft’ and also a familiar symbol, the Deputy Minister said.

Regardless of the symbol, the UNP-led alliance will win more than 113 seats in the parliament, Perera expressed confidently.
