Resumption of work on the US$ 1.4 billion Chinese-funded Colombo Port City project appears to be on the cards, The New Indian Express pointed out.
On Wednesday, the Cabinet approved Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe’s proposal to set up a Committee of Ministerial Secretaries to go into the desirability of allowing the mega project to continue. The committee will be headed by the Secretary to the PM.
Executed by the state-owned China Communication Construction Company, the project was stalled after the new government was elected following the January 8 Presidential Election.
Meanwhile, there is a petition currently being heard at the Court of Appeals on the Port City Project. The petition will be taken heard again on June 15.
