A special party leaders’ meeting is to be held this afternoon to discuss the special parliamentary session scheduled for Wednesday to approve the names of civil society members in the Constitutional Council.
Three names are to be approved for the CC, thus completing the ten members required for it to be appointed.
Meanwhile, former UN Under-Secretary Radhika Coomaraswamy, Sarvodaya founder A.T. Ariyaratne and former Appeal Court Judge A. W. A. Salaam are being cited as the possible appointees to the CC.
However, speaking at a press conference today, UPFA MP Bandula Gunawardena said that the parliament should first consider the no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, giving it top priority.
