Former Minister A.H.M. Azwer challenged Minister Sajith Premadasa to come to Colombo Central and give explanation to his allegations rather than trying to hoodwink the Muslim community.
He was responding to a comment reportedly made by Premadasa on the recent attack at Borella Abdin Jumma Mosque. Premadasa reportedly said at a meeting in Hambantota that such attacks were a thing of the past.
In a video statement, reminded that President Maithripala Sirisena had pledged to secure the rights of the minorities. Azwer asked Premadasa as to how such attacks took place under such circumstances.
Furthermore, Azwer recalled that the UNP had repeatedly accused the former president Mahinda Rajapaksa for attacks on Muslim community. Azwer said that while certain ‘powers’ were involved in such attacks, Rajapaksa never sanctioned or supported them. Members of the Muslim community are now seeking meetings with the former president, Azwer added.
Azwer also demanded from President Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to bring the culprits responsible for the attack to justice.
