Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) today urged all political parties, including the United National Party (UNP), to support the 20th Amendment to the Constitution and get it passed without further delay in Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference, JHU General Secretary Patali Champika Ranawaka insisted that the government should keep its promise and amend the existing electoral system.

Ranawaka pointed out that there was a group which attempts to prevent the passing of the 20th Amendment. They hoodwink the people by taking up unnecessary topics in Parliamentary debates, he added.

The UNP should not backtrack on the promises made during the election campaign, Ranawaka further stated.
