Ravi Karunanayake Sends Letter Of Demand To Colombo Telegraph

Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, through his lawyer, sent a Letter of Demand to Colombo Telegraph, demanding Rs 5 billion as damage.

Through the Letter of Demand, Karunanayake stated that his dignity and reputation was damaged by a story published in CT on May 27 under the headline “Another Scandal Rocks The United National Party.”

In the article, it was suggested that former Director General of Customs Jagath Wijeweera resigned due to Karunanayake’s influence, the Ministry of Finance said in a media release.

The Minister has demanded CT to remove the article within one week from June 3 and to make a public apology. Failing this, CT should pay him Rs 5 billion as damages within 14 days, Karunanayake demanded.

Karunanayake, through his lawyer, added that he will institute legal action if CT failed to meet his demand.
