Wasim Thajudeen Death: CID Permitted To Probe Telephone Records

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was granted permission by the courts to investigate telephone call records of former Sri Lankan rugby player and Havelocks captain Wasim Thajudeen on Thursday (04).

Wasim Thajudeen was killed in a road accident in Colombo, in May 2012. According to Police, Thajudeen had been driving to the airport when he had apparently lost control of the car and crashed into the wall of Shalika grounds on Park Road. The car had exploded within seconds of the crash, and it had burned completely.

However, police investigators found Thajudeen’s wallet at a different place which the police declined to name.

Although the police said that the rugby player’s death was accidental at that time then police spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana on February 26 said that it was suspicious.

Upon the direct order of the Chief Inspector of Police, the case was handed over to the CID instead of the Criminal Investigations Unit of Narahenpita Police.

Addressing a press briefing on May 29 police spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told that they would be able to reveal the truth of Thajudeen’s death very soon.
