Southern Province Fisheries Minister D.V. Upul was arrested by CID this afternoon after questioning him for nearly eight hours on a controversial statement he recently made.
At a recent meeting in Hambantota, Upul threatened that he is waiting for the return of Mahinda Rajapaksa as Prime Minister so that he could watch the police officers of the Financial Crimes Investigations Division being stoned to death.
The CID was assigned to investigate into the controversial statement. Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara recently said that an individual could be sent to a maximum of seven years in prison if he was proven guilty of making such a death threat
On June 4, Colombo Magistrate Court prohibited Southern Provincial Councillor D.V. Upul from travelling overseas, following a request by the CID.
