UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa is expected to appear at the Criminal Investigations Department today.
On June 8, he stated on social media that he has been handed over a notice to appear at the CID. No reason was given him by the police.
Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekara told Asian Mirror on the same day that he is not in a position to officially comment on the notices given to any individual. He is officially informed of the summoning of any person only after he or she arrived at the relevant police institution, he added.
It is speculated that Rajapaksa was summoned to be queried over the recent comments made by Southern Province Fisheries Minister DV Upul, at a meeting in Rajapaksa's presence.
Upul allegedly made threatening comments on police FCID and is currently held in remand prison on several charges.
