Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ajith P. Perera stated at a media briefing today that the UNP has decided to make a written request for the dissolution of Parliament in accordance with the recent decision of the working committee.
Perera said the UNP would remind the President that he would have to honor the pledge made during the Presidential Election that Parliament would be dissolved after hundred days.
“This government has the mandate to rule this country only for 100 days and therefore it is not correct to go on for two hundred days,” he said. This will lead to loss of public trust, he indicated.
He made it clear that the President requested for additional time to pass the 19th and 20th Amendments. However, the 20th Amendment is facing strong opposition, Perera pointed out.
