The Attorney General on Monday (15) appealed the Court of Appeal to reconsider the verdict issued by the Colombo High Court in the trial of the murder of a mother and her daughter in Kotakethana, Kahawatta.

The Attorney General instituted legal action against three individuals over the murder of Liyanarchchige Premawathi (63) and her daughter Hewagamage Pushapkumari.

The women were found brutally murdered and burned in their house in July 2012.

Colombo High Court acquitted all three accused on May 28. This verdict created widespread protests in Kahawatta.
