An Environmental Impact Assessment was done for only the First Stage of Colombo Port City Project, the Attorney General informed Court of Appeal today.
This was revealed when the AG submitted when the writ petition against the project filed by Center for Environmental Justice was considered.
When the petition was first considered on March 18, the Appeals Court directed the AG Department to submit the report on April 29. However, the AG Department requested more time and the Court of Appeal acceded to its request.
Meanwhile, the AG also informed court that Cabinet has appointed a committee to look into the project.
It was also revealed that 200 hectares of land is to be reclaimed in the first stage of the project.
The writ petition was fixed for support and it will be heard on August 7.
