Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara is likely to retire after playing the first Test against India later this year.
According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, the 37-year old batsman put his retirement proposal in front of the selection committee last Wednesday. The board will take a final decision only in their next meeting on Tuesday.
Sangakkara had decided to retire from all formats at the end of the 2015 ICC World Cup but was convinced to play two more Test series by the selection panel and skipper Angelo Mathews.
Selectors had also hoped that the batsman would play all six Tests against Pakistan and India, but he remained firm in his decision to step away.
