The Supreme Court today dismissed a Fundamental Rights petition filed by Captain Senaka Haripriya de Silva on behalf of Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka, seeking his reinstatement to Parliament.

The three-judge-bench comprising Chief Justice K. Sripavan, Justice Rohini Marasinghe and Justice Eva Wanasundara, stated that there was no legal basis to proceed with the petition since it had been filed by a third person.

In this petition, petitioner Captain de Silva had cited Secretary General of Parliament Dammika Dissanayake, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, Parliamentarian Jayantha Ketagoda and five others as respondents.
