A special meeting of Sri Lanka Freedom Party MPs is to be held today at Sri Lanka Foundation to discuss the 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
The 20th Amendment is facing a deadlock at present since there is a dispute over the number of MPs in the parliament. Meanwhile, a no-confidence motion filed by the opposition against the Prime Minister has created a different dispute.
Some MPs of the pro-Mahinda Rajapaksa faction has insisted that the no-confidence motion should be given priority over the 20th Amendment.
Meanwhile, the UNP recently accused the president of not being able to stop the opposition from filing the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at this critical juncture.
