Former DIG Vass Gunawardena and four other policemen who were remanded for the murder of businessman Mohamed Shiyam were released on strict bail conditions by Clombo High Court trial at bar a short while ago.

 

Each one of them were released on a cash bail of Rs. 500,00 and four sureties each of Rs 1 million.

 

Furthermore, all accused were ordered to report to the CID on every Wednesday and Friday. Travel restrictions were also imposed on them and they were given clear instructions not to interfere with any of the witnesses of the case. If any such report was received, their bail could be cancelled, the High Court warned.
