Deputy Minister Vasantha Senanayake received the highest number of preferential votes in Polonnaruwa District from the UNP with 76,651 votes. However Roshan Ranasinghe of the UPFA has received 76,825 votes.

Uva Province Chief Minister Harin Fernando exceeded the 200,000 preferencial vote mark from the Badulla District.

Opposition leader Nimal Siripala de Silva topped the list for the UPFA.

Unofficial results indicated that Buddhika Pathirana is leading the UNP preferences list in Matara District, while Mangala Samaraweera and Sagala Rathnayake are at second at third places respectively.

Pathirana has received 98,815 preferences, reports said. Mangala Samaweera received 96,082 preferences while Sagala Rathnayake received 86,772 preferences, unofficial results said.

The UNP won three seats from the Matara District and the UPFA won five seats.

UPFA won the Kurunegala District with a slight lead, winning 8 seats from the district.

The UPFA, led by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, received 474,124 votes (49.26%) while the UNP received 441,275 votes (45.85%).

The JVP could not win any seats. It received only 41,077 votes.

In 2010 General Election, the UPFA had won 10 seats from the district.

The UNP took Matale District winning 3 seats at the 2015 General Election, while the UPFA was reduced to 2 seats.

The UNP received 138,241 votes while the UPFA won 126,315 votes. Meanwhile the JVP managed to obtain 10,947.

In the 2010 General Election, the UPFA won the Matale District by a landslide, winning 4 out of 5 seats. The UNP was reduced to one seat in 2010.

Matale is the home district of Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, who was a staunch ally of Mahinda Rajapaksa duing the election campaign.

The UPFA won the Kalutara District, receiving 338,801 votes, while the UNP won only 310,234 votes.

Meanwhile, the JVP has received 38,475 votes.

The UPFA won 5 seats while the UNP won 4. The JVP took the remaining seat in Kalutara District.

The UPFA won 7 seats in 2010 while the JVP won only 2. Meanwhile, the DNA, which included the JVP, won one seat in 2010 from Kalutara District.

The UPFA won the Anuradhapura Electoral District and won 5 seats while the UNP won 4 seats.

The UPFA polled 229,856 votes while the UNP received 213, 072 votes.

Anuradhapura UPFA team was led by Minister Duminda Dissanayake, a staunch ally of President Maithripala Sirisena. He was recently appointed as Acting Secretary General of the SLFP by the President.

 Mahinda Rajapaksa created confusion on Tuesday morning as he first conceded the election and later backtracked on his decision.
 
“My dream of becoming prime minister has faded away,” Rajapaksa told AFP early Tuesday. “I am conceding. We have lost a good fight.”
 
But in an interview with Reuters later in the day, Mr. Rajapaksa stopped short of conceding, saying only that he was unlikely to lead Sri Lanka’s next government. “I will support good policies and oppose bad things" he said.
 
Meanwhile his Twitter Handle said that Rajapaksa hasn’t yet received official final results of the election to accept victory or concede defeat.

Kurunegala District postal votes were won by the UNP which polled 30,917 votes (47.70%) while the UPFA managed to poll only 28,634 postal votes.

The JVP was able to obtain 4,731 postal votes (7.30%)

This is a serious defeat for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who led the UPFA team in Kurunegala.

Kurunegala was the district with the largest number of postal voters.

The UNP won five seats in Badulla District, obtaining 258,844 votes (54.76%), while the UPFA won only three seats.

The UPFA polled 179,457 votes (37.97%).

Meanwhile, the JVP managed to poll only 21,445 votes and failed to win any seats. The Ceylon Workers' Congress received 10,259 votes.
