UNP Wins Trincomalee District Comfortably
August 18, 2015The United National Party won two seats in Trincomalee District, polling 83,638 votes (46.36%).
The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi won one seat with 45,894 votes polled and the UPFA was able to win one seat with 38,463 votes polled.
The UNP led the Muttur electorate and the ITAK won the Trincomalee Electorate. The UPFA won the Seruwila Electorate.
UPFA Wins Galle District, JVP Fails To Win Seats
August 18, 2015The UPFA won the Galle District with 312,518 while the UNP managed to poll only 265,180 votes.
Accordingly, the UPFA was able to win 6 seats and the UNP managed to win only 4 seats.
However, the JVP received only 37,778 votes and failed to win any seats.
In the 2010 General Election, the UPFA won seven seats and the UNP was able to win only 2 seats from the district. The DNA, which included the JVP, had won one seat.
The UPFA was defeated in the Mawathagama Electorate in Kurunegala District, despite the fact that the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had led the UPFA team in the district.
The UNP won 32,160 votes (49.94%) and the UPFA managed to poll only 28,870 votes (44.83%).
Meanwhile, the JVP managed to poll only 2,927 votes.
However, UPFA has managed to win several other seats in Kurunegala District.
UPFA Likely To Be Dissolved Following Election Defeat

August 18, 2015The Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi managed to win the Jaffna District comprehensively, polling 207,577 votes (69.12%). The ITAK won 5 seats out of the 7 seats in Jaffna District.
The EPDP led by Douglas Devananda managed to poll 30,232 votes (10.07%) and won one seat. Meanwhile the UNP managed to obtain one seat with 20,025 votes (6.67%).
The UPFA received 17,309 votes but failed to obtain a seat.
UPFA Wins Matara District
August 18, 2015The UPFA won the Matara District with 250,505 votes (52.44%) and won 5 seats. Meanwhile the UNP managed to obtain 186,675 votes and won 3 seats.
The JVP did not manage to win any seat. It received 35,270 votes.
The UPFA won all electorates in Matara District except the Matara Electorate.
Gammanpila Says UNP Will Form Minority Government
August 18, 2015Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and UPFA Colombo District candidate Udaya Gammanpila conceded defeat at the General Election a short while ago.
Updating a statement on his official Facebook page, Gammanpila said that the UPFA secured 9 electoral districts against UNP's 11 and TNA's 3.
UPFA Wins Hambantota District
August 18, 2015The UPFA won the Hambantota District with 196,980 votes (53.84%) and won 4 seats.
The UNP managed to win 2 seats with 130,433 votes (35.65%). The JVP managed to win one seat with 36,527 votes (9.98%).
Other parties failed to win any seats from the district. The Bodu Jana Peramuna managed to come at the fourth place with 419 votes.
Hambantota was the first district where the final result was released.
Rajapaksa Accepts Defeat, Reports AFP
August 18, 2015Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa accepted defeat at the 2015 General Election, AFP reported a short while ago.
“We have won eight districts and the UNP (ruling United National Party) has 11 (out of a total of 22),” Rajapaksa told AFP. “This means we have lost. It was a difficult fight.”
He added that he will work as an opposition Member of Parliament.
According to results already released, the UNP has shown a marked increase in its vote share in a number of districts. Meanwhile the ITAK won all seats in Jaffna District.
However, UPFA managed to win all seats in Rajapaksa's home district of Hambantota, albeit with a reduced majority.
UNP Leads Postal Votes In Anuradhapura
August 18, 2015The UNP led the postal votes in Anuradhapura District with a comfortable lead at the 2015 General Election.
The UNP received 20,842 votes (49.63%) and the UPFA polled 17,293 votes. The JVP polled 3443 votes.
In 2010, the UPFA swept the Anuradhapura postal votes. The UPFA won 28,0002 postal votes (73.52%) in 2010 from Anuradhapura while the UNP won only 7,224 postal votes.
